Colombia's Deputy Minister of Migration, Consular Affairs and International Protection, Paula Cerón, in coordination with Ambassador Daniel García-Peña, met representatives from the U.S. State Department, Department of Homeland Security, and ICE in Washington to advance bilateral migration cooperation.

Colombia's newly established Viceministry underscores the prominence of migration in the government's policy agenda. At the meeting, authorities discussed the voluntary departure programme, which has facilitated the return home of around 16,000 Colombian nationals with dignity and financial support.

The bilateral coordination on voluntary departure mechanisms exemplifies a shared commitment to humane migration practices. Discussions also advanced on consular assistance and the verification of rights for Colombian nationals in detention proceedings.
