Colombia and the U.S Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a Cultural Diplomacy event in Washington, D.C.

As part of the celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month in the United States, the Embassy of Colombia in Washington, D.C. brought together members of the U.S. Congress, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and leaders of the Hispanic community for an event that highlighted bilateral cooperation and the role of culture in diplomacy.

Colombian Ambassador to the United States Daniel García-Peña, along with U.S. Congressmen Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), presidente del Congressional Hispanic Caucus; Darren Soto (D-FL), vicepresidente del mismo; Robert Menéndez Jr. (D-NJ); Delia Ramírez (D-IL); Gabe Vásquez (D-NM); Sam Liccardo (D-CA); Teresa Leger Fernández (D-NM); as well as Ambassadors Ángeles Moreno Bau of Spain and Hugo Beteta of Guatemala, at the Colombian Embassy Residence in Washington, D.C., as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.

The evening featured U.S. Representatives Adriano Espaillat and Darren Soto, Chair and Vice-Chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, as well as ambassadors from across the Americas and Spain accredited to the U.S. Government.


In his remarks, Colombia’s Ambassador to the United States, Daniel García-Peña, stated:


“Our cultural diplomacy strengthens trust, reaffirms shared values, and projects our national image through dialogue and diversity. Colombia and the United States share a relationship that continues to evolve and consolidate through cooperation, the convergence of interests, and a shared vision for the future.”


The event also featured renowned Colombian chef Rey Guerrero, known for his work promoting Afro-Colombian culture through the gastronomy of the Pacific coast. His culinary creations, rooted in tradition, memory, and territory, offered guests a journey through the flavours of Colombia’s coastal regions, exemplifying how culinary diplomacy can build bridges of understanding among the nations of the Americas.


With this event, the Embassy of Colombia concluded a month of cultural initiatives marking Hispanic Heritage Month, aimed at strengthening the ties between both countries through cultural exchange, shared memory, and the celebration of diversity as a cornerstone of bilateral cooperation.
