Ambassador of Colombia to the United States, Daniel García-Peña, joined a high-level bilateral interparliamentary dialogue in Cartagena. The U.S. congressional bipartisan delegation, led by Representative Katherine Clark, met with Vice Minister for Multilateral Affairs Mauricio Jaramillo Jassir. Accompanying the delegation was Chargé d’Affaires a.i. John McNamara of the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá.

Held at the Casa del Marqués de Valdehoyos, the meeting addressed key priorities on the Colombia–U.S. agenda, including migration, counter-narcotics cooperation, and efforts to combat human trafficking.
Vice Minister Jaramillo underscored the importance of sustained legislative engagement in reinforcing a bilateral relationship that spans over two centuries. “The bipartisan support that Colombia has received from both chambers of the U.S. Congress has endured over time and across administrations,” he stated.

Ambassador García-Peña reaffirmed Colombia’s commitment to open and constructive diplomacy as a foundation for advancing strategic cooperation.
“Enduring partnerships are not measured by moments of agreement alone, but by the capacity to engage openly—especially when interests differ,” he noted.
Also present were Colombian Representatives Alejandro Toro, Gloria Flórez, and Dorina Hernández, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of the Interior, the National Police, the Navy, Migration Colombia, and the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena.
