A recent media report, based on anonymous sources and without any findings, alleging preliminary inquiries in two New York districts concerning President Gustavo Petro must be read in its full context and approached with the caution such unverified accounts warrant.
No competent authority has issued any formal determination or notification, nor confirmed the assertions referenced in the report. The reported insinuations have no legal or factual basis.
Throughout his public life, President Gustavo Petro has consistently and unequivocally confronted criminal activity, both in Colombia and during his years in exile, after being forced to leave the country for denouncing wrongdoing.
His trajectory has been defined by sustained, visible, and often difficult action against illegality, including against transnational criminal organizations involved in narcotics trafficking, reflecting a longstanding commitment to justice, institutional integrity, and the rule of law. That record stands on scrutiny, not speculation.
Colombia remains firmly committed to the rule of law, due process, and the integrity of its democratic institutions. The Government will continue to engage with international partners through established channels, with the seriousness such matters demand.
