Washington DC - The Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Francisco Coy, and the Comptroller General of the Republic, Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, spent a week in Washington DC, where they met with US government officials, think tanks and civil society, strengthening the bilateral relationship between Colombia and the United States.
Defense Minister Iván Velásquez was in the city from November 28 to December 1. He participated in an executive structuring session of the Bilateral Defense Working Group. In this session, the Minister shared with the technical team of the Department of Defense the security and defense approach of the government of President Gustavo Petro, in order to align future cooperation efforts between the two countries. He also met with the Secretary of Defense of the United States, Lloyd Austin III at the Pentagon, to advance the bilateral defense and security agenda, being the first member of President Gustavo Petro's cabinet to meet with his homologue in Washington DC. He also held other meetings with congressmen, State Department officials and representatives of civil society.
Vice Chancellor Francisco Coy's agenda focused on meetings at the State Department with the Assistant Secretary for the Western Hemisphere, Brian Nichols, and Deputy Assistant Secretaries Mark Wells, Assistant Secretary for South America, and Charisse Phillips, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Programs. In addition, he spoke with White House Senior Western Hemisphere Director for Security Juan Gonzalez to advance details of the next High-Level Dialogue meeting to be hosted by the United States in 2023.
Finally, the Comptroller General of the Republic, Carlos Hernan Rodriguez began his visit with a meeting with the President-elect of the Inter-American Development Bank IDB, Ilan Goldfajn, where they discussed the strengthening of citizen participation issues and the program for digital transformation. He also held a meeting with the Comptroller General of the United States and Head of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), Gene L. Dodaro, to strengthen mutual legal assistance and share experiences in anti-corruption issues.
Altos funcionarios del gobierno de Colombia llegan a Washington DC
Washington DC – El Ministro de Defensa, Iván Velásquez, el Viceministro de Relaciones Exteriores Embajador Francisco Coy, y el Contralor General de la República, Carlos Hernán Rodríguez, estuvieron por una semana en la ciudad de Washington DC, donde se reunieron con funcionarios del gobierno estadounidense, centros de pensamiento y sociedad civil, fortaleciendo la relación bilateral entre Colombia y Estados Unidos.
El Ministro de Defensa, Iván Velásquez, estuvo en la ciudad del 28 de noviembre al primero de diciembre. Participó en una sesión ejecutiva de estructuración del Grupo de Trabajo Bilateral en Defensa. En ésta, el señor Ministro compartió al equipo técnico del Departamento de Defensa el enfoque de seguridad y defensa del gobierno del Presidente Gustavo Petro, para alinear los esfuerzos de cooperación futura entre los dos países. También se reunió con el Secretario de Defensa de los Estados Unidos, Lloyd Austin III en el Pentágono, para avanzar en temas de la agenda bilateral en defensa y seguridad, siendo este, el primer miembro del gabinete del presidente Gustavo Petro en reunirse con su homólogo en la ciudad de Washington DC. Además, sostuvo otras reuniones con congresistas, funcionarios del Departamento de Estado y representantes de la sociedad civil.
La agenda que desarrolló el Vicecanciller Francisco Coy se centró en reuniones con el Departamento de Estado con el Sub secretario para el hemisferio Occidental, Brian Nichols y los Sub secretarios Adjuntos Mark Wells, Adjunto para Suramérica, y Charisse Phillips, Adjunta de Estado de programas del hemisferio occidental. Además, habló con el Director Senior Hemisferio Occidental de Seguridad de Casa Blanca, Juan González, con el fin de avanzar en detalles de la próxima reunión de Dialogo de Alto Nivel que será organizada por Estados Unidos en 2023.
Por último, el Contralor General de la República, Carlos Hernán Rodríguez inició su visita con una reunión con el Presidente electo del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo BID, Ilan Goldfajn, donde abordaron el fortalecimiento de temas de participación ciudadana y el programa para transformación digital. Además, sostuvo una reunión con el Contralor General de los Estados Unidos y Jefe de la Oficina de Responsabilidad del Gobierno de los Estados Unidos (GAO), Gene L. Dodaro, para fortalecer la asistencia jurídica reciproca y compartir experiencias en temas anti corrupción.
