Updated: Oct 1, 2020

To learn about the Meaning of Colombian Art, artist Pedro Ruiz will talk about his journey as a professional through a series of paintings and exhibits that will show the audience why he has become a one of kind artist to be recognized locally and internationally.

In a comfortable virtual conversation organized by the Embassy of Colombia in the Unites States, the artist will talk to Adriana Ospina, curator of the Permanent Collection of the Art Museum of the Americas from the Organization of American States (OAS). Ruiz will go through his process as an artist showcasing some of his most memorable paintings. Audiences will be able to see some of his iconic pieces from the Gold Collection too.

The conversation will end with a description about his project: Indigenous Reservation Caño Muchuelo: A Universe in Danger created to raise awareness about fourteen indigenous communities from the Colombian Orinoquia.

Ruiz sees nature as “a force which we cannot control and must live in harmony with”. His series GOLD seeks to convey the essence of the Colombian spirit, with canoes carrying elements of a beloved cultural patrimony to be shared with the rest of the world. His paintings reflect what he sees as highlights in Colombia´ s reality and culture. Elements of flora, fauna and biodiversity among others support the artist interpretation of reality in his country.

He has been honored as a Friend of Unicef (2014), designated as a Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters of the French Republic (2010) and received Honorable Mention at the XXXII National Salon of Artists.

The Embassy of Colombia in the United States works in partnership with the Organization of American States for this event, that is part of the Plan to Promote Colombia Abroad, a tool of cultural diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, which seeks to support the achievement of the foreign policy goals of the Colombian State.
