Her arrival comes at the outset of a new era in relations between Colombia and the United States, marked by renewed confidence and a shared commitment to concrete results.

In a statement, Ambassador Araújo set out the mandate that will guide her work in Washington:

“I arrive in Washington following my appointment by President Abelardo De La Espriella to assume a responsibility of the utmost importance to Colombia: leading our relationship with the United States at a moment of renewed confidence and opportunity for both countries. My mandate is to turn that confidence into tangible results, and the agreements reached this week in Barranquilla provide a clear roadmap: support Colombia’s reconstruction and economic prosperity, advance trade and investment, and strengthen our shared security and regional stability “I begin this mission as hundreds of Colombian families continue to face the aftermath of the earthquake that struck on 10 August. At this moment of national recovery, the solidarity extended by the United States reflects the depth of the ties between our countries and reaffirms the shared purpose that will guide this new phase of bilateral relations.”
