The Embassy of Colombia in the United States had the honour of welcoming officers undertaking the Curso de Estado Mayor (CEM), Colombia’s advanced professional military education programme designed for Majors of the Army and Air Force, and Commanders of the Navy aspiring to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel or Commander.

Chargé d’Affaires Andrea Jiménez Herrera welcomed the delegation at the Embassy, underscoring their role as the next generation of operational leaders, commanders, and administrators.

“The officers undertaking the CEM embody the professionalism, discipline, and strategic vision required to lead Colombia’s Armed Forces into the future. Their service strengthens not only our national defence but also our capacity to work with international partners in pursuit of shared security and stability,” Ms. Jiménez Herrera said.

The CEM is an intensive, 11-month, in-person programme and a prerequisite for promotion to senior ranks. It provides officers with the knowledge, skills, and leadership training essential to managing complex military operations, shaping strategic policy, and safeguarding Colombia’s sovereignty.

The visit to the Embassy formed part of the course’s broader engagement with strategic institutions in Washington, D.C., reinforcing the value of defence diplomacy and the importance of Colombia–U.S. cooperation in security and military education.
