Colombian ‘Charm’ on Full Display at ‘ENCANTO’ Celebration

Ambassador Pinzón opens his Residence in Washington to Experience the beauty of Colombian culture

Washington, DC, November 19th, 2021 - To commemorate the release of the latest Disney animated film “ENCANTO,” Colombian Ambassador to the United States Juan Carlos Pinzón hosted a celebration of the sights and sounds of Colombia last night at the Residence in Washington, DC. “The expertise of Disney, together with the vibrant Colombian culture and the talent of our two countries, has created this magical universe called ENCANTO,” said Ambassador Pinzón. “Just like the characters in the movie, we are honored to open our ‘La Casita’ here in the U.S. capital to celebrate the beauty of our culture with our American friends.” Colombian singer and actor Mauro Castillo, who plays ‘Felix’ in the movie, animated the evening with his music after he talked about his participation in the movie. The guests enjoyed dinner by the Colombian chef Mariana Velasquez, who created a menu that included “arepas, bunuelos, arroz con leche and arroz atollado.” The decorations, inspired by ENCANTO, included colorful flowers and yellow butterflies that were reminiscent of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s magical realism. Ambassador Pinzón used the occasion to preview the 200th Anniversary of the Colombia-U.S. diplomatic relationship, which will be celebrated next year. It was on June 19, 1822, that the two nations established diplomatic relations following Colombia’s independence from Spain. “Here we are, nearly 200 years after our countries established diplomatic ties, celebrating the release of this beautiful, creative collaboration,” continued Ambassador Pinzón. “Coming together for occasions like these is a wonderful reminder of the values and special relationship we share. With our shared vision for the future, I know we will only grow closer.”
