Pompeo to Meet with President Duque, Discuss Strong U.S.-Colombia Cooperation on Counternarcotics

Washington, DC — U.S. Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo will travel to Bogotá, Colombia on Monday, January 20, where he will meet with President Iván Duque and address the Third Western Hemisphere Counterterrorism Ministerial.

Colombia is hosting this year’s Counterterrorism Ministerial. The first Ministerial was convened by the United States in 2018; the second by Argentina in 2019.

Monday’s visit will be Secretary Pompeo’s third to Colombia as Secretary of State. He previously visited Cartagena and Cucutá.

During his visit to Cucutá, Secretary Pompeo met with organizations assisting Venezuelan refugees fleeing the Maduro regime. Colombia has welcomed more than 1.6 million Venezuelan refugees, more than any other nation.
