Colombia participated in a series of high-level engagements under the Shield of the Americas initiative, focused on strengthening regional cooperation against transnational criminal organisations and advancing shared security priorities.

Ambassador María Consuelo Araújo met with U.S. Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas Kristi Noem ahead of the initiative’s meeting in Washington. Discussions addressed joint efforts against narcoterrorist organisations and the importance of security and stability in supporting investment, economic growth and prosperity. Special Envoy Noem also expressed interest in deepening engagement with the private sector and promoting greater investment in Colombia.

During the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Ambassador Araújo joined Vice President José Manuel Restrepo and Foreign Minister Omar Bula at a Shield of the Americas meeting chaired by President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

President Trump welcomed the Colombian delegation, and reaffirmed U.S. support, as discussions brought security and economic security together within a broader regional agenda for stability, growth and prosperity.
