The mission of the Embassy of Colombia is to represent the government of Colombia in the United Sates. It serves as a bridge between both countries promoting bilateral relations, widening the commercial exchange and seeking new forms of cooperation. The Embassy promotes the image of Colombia by permanently coordinating activities and events for the promotion of Colombian culture as well as tourist exchange. It also serves as a consular aide to Colombian citizens traveling or currently living in the United States.
The Embassy has a strong focus on Congressional Affairs, Human Rights and Cultural activities. The main objective of the Congressional Affairs division is to maintain a constant dialogue with tUS parties and the administration in all issues concerning the bilateral agenda including Plan Colombia, approval of the FTA and USAID. Human Rights makes part of the core program of the Government of Colombia and is responsible for keeping a constant dialogue with NGO's and Think Tanks to promote ideas and discuss initiatives that can contribute to consolidate the state policies in this issue. The Cultural division is responsible for sharing with local audiences in joint venture with other cultural institutions the cultural expressions of the Colombian people. It includes film , music, literature, photography and painting among others.
