Colombia is now Building Confidence
Colombia is building confidence so that young people can live and go to school in Colombia, confidence for investors and workers, confidence to engage in entrepeneurship, confidence to overcome poverty and inequality, and confidence so Colombia is seen as a possibility rather than a limitation.
The government supports confidence on three pillars: Security based on Democracy, Investment based on Social Reponsability, and Social Cohesion based on Freedoms. Some significant figures of Colombia's path towards the building of confidence are:
- In 2009, according to a report by the United Nations Illicit Crop Monitoring System, Colombia had the lowest cocaine production in 11 years. The report inidicated a 9.3% drop in cocaine production in the country in 2009.
- Thanks to developments in matters of labor and trade unions, Colombia was excluded from the list of 25 countries examined by the Committee of Experts and the Committee on Freedom of Association of the International Labor Organization, or ILO.
- Today, direct foreign investment is three times higher than 7 years ago.
- According to the World Bank in their Report Doing Business 2010, Colombia is the "friendliest"country for doing business in Latin America.
- Important advances have been made in terms of Social Security affiliations for both poor families and families with means, Colombia has 41 million insured citizens out of a total of 46 million inhabitants.
- In relation with the attention to vulnerable population groups, the goal to attend 400,000 people in 2010 was met and surpassed. Between 2005 and 2010 the number of displaced persons aided increased from 120,651 to 649,338.
